What moves the price

  • How it's builtFrameless runs about 20% less than framed full overlay, and inset about 8% more, because inset doors are fitted by hand inside the frame.
  • How much wall you coverCabinets are priced by the foot of wall they run along. Uppers and lowers together cost nearly twice what lowers alone do.
  • Floor to ceiling cabinetsPantry and oven cabinets cost the most per foot, since each one is a full height box with more doors and shelves.
  • DrawersA cabinet that is all drawers costs a little more than one with doors. Most kitchens have two to four.
  • Finished ends and feetPaneled ends where a cabinet side shows, and furniture style feet, add to the price and a lot to the look.
  • Wood and finishPainted and stained cost the same. Some wood species cost more than others.

Questions people ask

Why do custom cabinets cost more than big box cabinets?

Big box cabinets are made in a few set widths by the thousand. Custom cabinets are cut to your room one at a time, with plywood boxes, hardwood face frames and dovetailed drawers, and the people who built them install them. You pay for the fit and the build, and you get a kitchen with no wide filler strips and nothing that looks like it almost fits.

Is semi-custom worth a look?

Often, yes. On a typical kitchen our semi-custom option runs about 44% less than custom framed cabinets. It comes in set sizes and colors, and we still assemble and install it.

Does painted cost more than stained?

Not with us. Every price we show is for painted cabinets in any color, and staining costs the same.

How long does a custom kitchen take?

Most jobs are ready to install 4 to 6 weeks after you approve the final drawings.
